Luke Geoghegan stutters. All his life he has been teased, bullied and excluded, so that he has become someone who watches from the shadows. When Senán Meere from the university takes up a part-time shelf-stacking job in Luke’s shop, two very different worlds become intertwined — Senán’s world of academia and optimism, and Luke’s sink-estate nihilism. They become unlikely friends until Luke moves his night-stalking activities to Senán’s world. Gu-Gu-Geoghegan is about how love and friendship can form across social boundaries, and how isolation and loneliness can damage the human psyche.
